PLACE BETS - The next bet weÆre going to cover and probably the most popular bet is the place bet. LetÆs return to our layout. So far weÆve covered true odds. Above the true odds are the Place Bet odds. YouÆll notice the 4 and 10 pay the same, 9 to 5. The 5 and 9 pay the same, 7 to 5 and the 6 and 8 pay the same 7 to 6. You can walk up to any table and regardless of what stage the game is in, you can make a Place Bet. You can also call a Place Bet down at any time. The reason the odds are different is that you can choose any number you want, unlike the COME bet for the next roll of the dice determines the number. A place bet is usually made after a point has been established. To receive the correct odds, we have to bet $5. We take $5 and tell the dealer in a loud clear voice, "place the 4 please".
Always speak up so the dealer knows exactly what you want. The dealer will take your bet and put it up on the 4 but this time you placed it on these two lines unlike the COME bet which was here. Again, it was placed on the layout in the position where you were standing. He places it on the 2 line so he knows and you know that the bet is a Place bet and not a Come or DonÆt COME bet. We also want to make a Place bet on the 5. We take $5 and tell the dealer "place the 5 please". Now letÆs place the 6. We have to bet $6 because the 6 pays 7 to 6. We take $6 and tell the dealer "place the 6 please". The next roll of the dice is a 6. The dealer will pay you $7 for your $6. The 6 pays 7 to 6. HeÆll pass the payoff to you. They always pay you where the bet originated. The Place Bet originated from outside the layout. The shooter then throws a 5. The dealer will pay you $7 because the 5 pays 7 to 5. LetÆs say the shooter throws a 4. The dealer will pay you $9 because the 4 pays 9:5. You notice that your Place bets have not come down with the payoff like the COME bet did but you can call down your bet at any time unlike the COME bet. Just say "down on the 4" or "down in the 5".
The Place Bet, you win if the number you bet is rolled and you lose if a 7 is rolled. The Place bets work all the time, every roll of the dice. The only time they donÆt work is on a Come Out Roll or when a marker shows black or off. Some people like to place all the numbers at the same time. LetÆs say the point is 9. You take $27 and give it to the dealer and tell him "$27 across". HeÆll put $5 on the 4, $5 on the 5, $6 on the 6, $6 on the 8 and $5 on the 10. If the point were 6 or 8, it would be $26 across. Now you have a bet on all the numbers and every time one of those numbers come out, you would get paid. If a 7, however, rolls you would lose all these bets. ThatÆs the game of Craps.
